Carlos Diaz, MD

Dr. Carlos Diaz is a board-certified ophthalmologist that specializes in cataract surgery with modern lenses, including presbyopia and astigmatism correcting intraocular lenses. He also performs refractive surgery, including LASIK and PRK. In addition, he performs state-of-the-art pterygium surgery, which is aimed at producing superior cosmetic outcomes with a lower risk of recurrence. Dr. Diaz also has extensive experience in glaucoma procedures, including SLT Laser, Ex-Press Mini Shunt, Canaloplasty, iStent, and Goniotomy. He is fluent in Spanish.
Dr. Diaz attended medical school at Northwestern University in Chicago, Ill., and received his Bachelor of Science degree from Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Mich. (he graduated magna cum laude). His medical training included completion of an ophthalmology residency at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, and a two-year fellowship in ocular pathology and research at Emory University in Atlanta, Ga. He completed an internship at St. Mary’s Hospital in Grand Rapids, Mich.
Dr. Diaz is an assistant professor at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, where he enjoys teaching residents.
Dr. Diaz and his wife, Alma, have one daughter, Carolina, and a son, Carlos Franklin. In his spare time, he enjoys high-performance driving and attending/watching Formula 1 races, although his most precious time is spent with Carolina, Alma, and Carlos Franklin, who also love cars.
